Post 43-The Soweto uprising

From Wikipedia-"Hector Pieterson being carried by Mbuyisa Makhubo after being shot by South African police. His sister, Antoinette Sithole runs beside them. Pieterson was rushed to local clinic and declared dead on arrival at the clinic."
On this day 36 years ago something happened in South Africa that was done by the devil. Something very sad and cruel happened and that was the event known as the Soweto Uprising. The Soweto Uprising was a rally/protest on June 16th, 1976 in Soweto,South Africa. Students from several Sowetan schools protested in the streets of Soweto in the introduction of the language Afrikaans being in schools as the main language.  In 1974 the South African Minister of Bantu Education and Development, MC Botha, issued a decree saying that all black schools had to use  Afrikaans and English in a 50-50 mix as languages in school. Most blacks in south Africa knew English not Afrikaans so this was such a disadvange because instead of for example answering a question or filling in a work sheet and learning that subject they would have to learn the language first. This also was offensive to some students who to their practice in faith and in church did not speak in Afrikaans. To them it was "the language of the oppressor". So because of this law the students of Soweta went in protest in a peaceful matter. They stayed peaceful and never got violent. The police came and blocked their way of walking so they went the opposite dirction but never tried to be violent. One officer started something that changed the whole protest. On officer fired his gun and then an outbreak happened and all the other police started shooting all these children. The policeman who first shot(supposedly) was  Colonel Kleingeld. Acording to Wikipedia      (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soweto_uprising )"In Kleingeld's account, some of the children started throwing stones as soon as they spotted the police patrol, while others continued to march peacefully." Now nobody really knows if that's true or not but even if it is its not cool just to kill children. Anyways lots of children got wounded and hurt. So got mobbed because all the children went running, some got shot, and some got bitten by police dogs. In the end its estimated that 200 to 600 children and adults(because some teachers and priest did join in)died and an estimated thousand and counting wounded children and adults. They fought for their rights and in the end the devil comes in. I am inspired by this to go out and to bring peace to world. It inspires me to try to be peaceful and not violent. Today in honor of The Soweto Uprising my quotes will be about peace.

I dream of an Africa which is in peace with itself.-
Nelson Mandela

We must see that peace represents a sweeter music, a cosmic melody, that is far superior to the discords of war.

- Martin Luther King, Jr.
